Shaun Edwards

Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Shaun is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, graduating from the University of Queensland in 2018 with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology.

Shaun has developed a keen interest in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, cardiac and metabolic conditions, and has had valuable experience already working in these fields through his studies. As a practitioner, his underlying goal is to achieve long-term success for those he works with, by fostering confidence, consistency and ultimately a feeling of self-reliance.

Shaun also works in cardiac rehabilitation in a hospital setting and is a keen indoor football player, and has found that this translates very well to an ongoing interest in athletic performance and injury

prevention for athletes.

James Tu

Accredited Exercise Physiologist

James is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who graduated from the University of Queensland in 2019 with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours). He is currently continuing his postgraduate study in the Masters of Physiotherapy Studies program at the University of Queensland.

His keen interests within muskuloskeletal injuries, chronic conditions and disability work makes him a valued member within the Active Matters team. James as a practitioner values improving clients overall quality of life, adopting a client centred approach and instilling self-confidence through education and exercise. James is also fluent in Mandarin (他说普通话)

Outside of work James plays competitive volleyball and basketball. Which drives his passion for helping young athletes return to sport, improve their performance and reduce their risk of injury.

Callum Hicks
Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Callum is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, graduating from the University of Queensland in 2020 with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours). Callum has an extensive background in sport and fitness including, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Track and Field, Strength Training and Touch Football.

 

Callum takes interest in musculoskeletal injuries, chronic and metabolic conditions, however his primary motivation is to help people of all fitness levels and backgrounds lead healthier lives. Apart from work Callum plays semi-professional rugby in Brisbane which contributes to his interest in seeing athletes rehabilitate injuries, improve their performance and reduce their risk of injury.

Mel Blackmore
Accredited Exercise Physiologist

Mel is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist who graduated from the University of Queensland in 2022 with a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (1st class Honours). Mel has a strong exercise background with a history of strength training for Powerlifting and Strongwoman, as well as Netball and F45 coaching.

Mel is a CODA and Auslan user, she has a keen interest in working with individuals who are Deaf & Hard of Hearing. She also takes particular interest in musculoskeletal conditions, women's health, chronic conditions and strength and conditioning. She is motivated to work with all varieties of clients and her goal is to help clients work towards goals of developing a healthy, active lifestyles.

Outside of work Mel competes in powerlifting and Strongwoman which drives her passion for rehabilitation, performance development and injury prevention.

Harley McIntyre

Principal Exercise Physiologist

Harley is the principal Exercise Physiologist and founder at Active Matters EP. He graduated with a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science (Clinical Exercise Physiology) from the University ​of Queensland and has 10 yrs experience in clinical exercise delivery. Offering a high level of support across a wide range of specialisations, Harley provides expert exercise interventions for rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injury and persons at high-risk of developing, or with existing chronic and complex medical conditions.

 

Passionate about helping his clients harness the medicinal benefits of exercise, starting Active Matters was a natural progression. With a background in personal training and one on one strength and conditioning for high level athletes, Harley brings an evidence based coaching approach to rehabilitation and performance. He also works in elite and youth athlete development and has a background in coaching professional and senior athletes at national and international level in sports such as Rugby, Soccer, Cricket, Hockey, Athletics and Powerlifting.
